FAT EDNA

RAIN DATE: AUGUST 3RD

Another magnificent day for tennis on grass with the best people to spend time. Thank you for leaving family on a Sunday to support a good cause. And breaking bread with you was a special event as well. This year we were 1 player short which had me in the mix alot. Fun for me, however a few things got neglected like the group picture with the BIG check

I heard a lot of laughter. And nice shot. Remember to do that during your league match when your opponent hits this spectacular, lucky shot out of no where. Instead of thinking "lucky bastard", think....nice shot....I dare you

I saw Lindsey fall to her knees diving for a volley, got up and volleyed again winning the point. Her arms raised in triumph and a shout of yeaaah, made my day...I saw Gavin throw in bombs for serves, making Joel frown....I saw Larry hit so many great volleys...WOW. And during the "mass drill" I saw some amazing feats of athleticism...This is what it is all about...Sorry the lob kicked your butt...lol

Hey, John Fitzpatrick....hook me up on grass in Ireland, please.....

See you all sooner than next year.....PS, I got my Dayton

New for 2008: KEN BENNER and his wonderful tennis memorabilia...I have my eye on the Dayton. The wooden racket strung with what looks and feels like "piano wire"

Play Hy on grass started because I have played the USTA Grass Nationals for 10 years, winning 6 singles titles and several doubles titles. Most of my students and friends would remark that they have never played on grass and would like to, so.....let's do it

Philadelphia Cricket Club, in Chestnut Hill, Pa. had the date I wanted open for an outing and I was "inked" into their schedule

I knew of the short life and story of Alex of "Alex's Lemonade Stand". Early in 2007, my 7 year old nephew Austin lost a classmate and friend, Matthew Larson, also age 7, to brain cancer

In 2003, Brad Valenzuela, age 15 lost his battle with brain cancer. Brad was a student of mine. From age 8, he was on my tennis court making me laugh till my sides hurt. A wonderful kid, I will never forget

The Foundation for Childhood Cancer has to be the charity to give to. If you know me at all, you know I have an opinion on absolutely every thing. I will not get up on my soap box about how I feel about children being hurt in any way. Not enough space here. Let's just say that as long as I breathe, I will do whatever I can to to help bring awareness and make a small difference in the lives of those families who are dealing with childhood cancer

I hope you can make it on Sunday, August 3rd at 1pm. The competition will be good, looking at my sign up sheet. All levels are welcome. The grass will be wonderful. If you have never played on grass, it is very different from hard courts and a continent away from Har-Tru and Clay. FUN. It is my favorite surface. AND, I might end up on your court on Sunday

FORMAT: Doubles Round Robin....Men's, Ladies, Mixed and Mixed Up....AND ONE OF MY DRILLS

Call me or text or better yet, email me if you can make it

Non tennis players can come out and cheer and watch some very good tennis at one of Philadelphia's Premier Grass Courts

Tax deductable donations can be made to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation at the event...please write "play Hy on grass" in the memo
